Visione di Stefan Strumbel, conceptual artist

“Frischer Wind Asphalt” è uno dei miei ultimi lavori. Una scultura in legno intarsiato a mano e colorata con pittura spray e acrilica, che ho realizzato nel mio studio vicino alla Foresta Nera, in Germania. Utilizzando un orologio a cucù con degli ornamenti come dei piccoli angeli, dei coni e richiami caratteristici della street art come scheletri e vernice lucida, questo pezzo diventa una reinterpretazione moderna del genere pop art. La forma, che vuole dare il senso di un effetto sfumato, sfuocato, rappresenta il passaggio dalla tradizione al modernismo e rende questo cucu rustico un artwork dinamico e contemporaneo. La mia intenzione è far riflettere sul detto “il tempo vola”.

Stefan Strumbel è nato nel 1979 a Offenburg, la città in cui vive e lavora. Il suo nome è legato a una produzione artistica che si caratterizza per la reinterpretazione di oggetti della cultura tradizionale come orologi a cucù, ancore e crucifissi, che l'artista integra con elementi propri della street art e della pop art. In questo modo Stefan pone gli oggetti in un contesto completamente nuovo e talvolta provocatorio. La sua arte vuole contribuire a un cambiamento dei valori sociali: ideali e concetti stereotipati si dissolvono in un'estetica che diventa allegoria degli status symbol sociali. Con i suoi “oggetti trasformati” Stefan crea un mondo immaginario che riflette e fa riflettere sulle malattie della società contemporanea.

“Frischer Wind Asphalt” is one of my most recent artworks. It is a hand carved timber sculpture covered with spray paint and acrylic that was produced in my studio nearby the Black Forest, Germany. By utilizing a cuckoo clock including traditional carved ornaments such as cherubs and cones and reincorporate street art elements like skulls and glossy spray paint, this German cult artifact becomes a modern and reinterpreted pop art piece. The blurry appearance emphasizes the transformation from tradition to modernism and turns the pretty rustic cuckoo clock into a rather dynamic and light artwork. Thereby, my intention is to bring the transience of life to mind – true to the motto ‘time flies’.

Stefan Strumbel was born in 1979 in Offenburg, the city where he lives and works. He made a name for himself by exaggerating traditional and cult artifacts such as cuckoo clocks, anchors and crucifixes and reincorporating elements of Street Art and Pop Art. By doing so, he puts the objects into a completely new and often provocative context, always pushing boundaries. With his art, Strumbel initiates a change in social values: Traditional ideals, clichéd notions of home and the reality of the individual are dissolved and transformed into an aesthetic that becomes an allegory of social status symbols. With his transformed objects, Strumbel successfully creates an illusionary world, which reflects societies real maladies.
